New Home Build

Building Our Dream Home: The Journey Begins With DIY Home Building

After two years of searching, we finally found it—the perfect piece of land in Southern Oregon to build our dream home. It’s been a long road, but standing here now, watching everything come together, by doing a few DIY home building projects ourselves and hiring professionals where needed. It’s clear it was worth the wait.

Let me catch you up to speed on our journey so far.

Finding the Perfect Lot

We started this adventure with a dream but no destination.

After scouring countless listings, taking road trips to explore properties, and imagining all the possibilities, we landed on a raw piece of land that felt just right.

Nestled in the stunning Pacific Northwest, this lot checked all the boxes: views, space, and potential.

The First Steps: Permits and Prep

The real work began back in April when we got our development permit.

With that green light, it was time to get to work!

First up, we tackled the essentials: septic, well, and power. Those initial projects were a whirlwind, but they laid the foundation (literally) for everything to come.

Battling the Weather

Of course, the Pacific Northwest had its own plans for us.

Spring rains delayed our start, but by June, the skies cleared, and we were off and running.

Since then, we’ve been making steady progress—from pouring the foundation to framing the walls.

Windows are in, and the roof is next on the list!

Splitting the Work: DIY vs. Hired Help

Jason, my talented and handy other half, has been tackling some of the projects himself while we’ve hired others.

I can’t wait to break down the costs for you—from the professional jobs we’ve outsourced to the DIY projects we’ve tackled together. It’s all part of making this home truly ours.

Tools That We Prefered for The DIY Home Building Project

These tools have really helped Jason DIY home building projects. DEWALT is the most trusted brand for Jason, he prefers to use DEWALT tools only.

That’s why I picked the DEWALT 20V MAX Brushless 6 Tool Kit; it is battery-operated and offers built-in LED to increase visibility. You can also use DEWALT 20V MAX LED Work Flashlight.

For woodwork, the DEWALT miter saw whose stainless steel and pivotable blade do your job effortlessly and secure them with the DEWALT 20V Framing Nailer.

Finally, secure them all in a dedicated space on something like a Power Tool Organizer that you can mount on the wall.

What’s Next?
